Everything you wanted to know about Planned Giving!

Have you ever wondered .......... How can I help my church???

Donating time and resources are some of the answers.

The Church's ministries are funded by

1) The annual funding program
2) Giving beyond the budget
3) Planned Giving

Planned Giving is here to assist Church members who would like to donate their financial resources.

Below are questions and answers that we hope more fully explain Planned Giving.

What kind of financial resources can I donate to my Church?

Planned Giving will assist members donate their assets or money. That is why Planned Giving was formed. This committee was developed with assistance from the Conference.

What kind of assets can I donate?

Planned Giving will help with a variety of assets - cash, stocks, life insurance, homes, boats, cars, land, interval ownership, jewelry, and other items of value.

I would like to give the Church some of my stocks or some land I have been holding, but I am not sure how to do it - will Planned Giving help me?

I would like to include the Church in my will - but I am not sure how to go about that - will Planned Giving help me?

Yes, that is why Planned Giving was formed. Contact the Church office or any committee member, so that we may be of service to you.

I have some extra cash that I would like to give to the Church, but I do not want it to get used on the regular expense items, how can I be sure my donation goes to a worthy "extra" cause?

You can designate the cause on which you would like your donation to be spent or you can let the committee decide on a project. A while back, Planned Giving members contacted many members in our congregation and committees. We built a list of extra items these members felt would help with their specific mission. Ask any Planned Giving committee member for the project list. No donations given to Planned Giving will be spent on general budget items.

I have a specific project on the Planned Giving project list that I would like to donate to - but I do not have enough of a donation to fully fund the project - will Planned Giving take a donation that only partially fills a project need?

Yes, Planned Giving has accounts where money will be saved toward a project goal. Once enough donations are received to complete a project, the project will be started.

Whatever happened to the Endowment Fund that was started years back?

The Endowment Fund is alive and kicking and part of Planned Giving. Planned Giving is made up of three components. Donations can be given to the Endowment Fund. That means that any money given to this fund cannot be touched until a certain dollar threshold ($50,000) is achieved. Once that minimum is achieved, donations to that account will be spent according to the directives of the donor or the Administrative Council Committee with recommendations given by the Planned Giving Committee.

What are the other two components of Planned Giving, as I now know that the Endowment Fund is a part of the three parts of Planned Giving?

The three components of Planned Giving are

1) Accepted donations toward a named project
2) Accepted donations given with no specific project designated
3) Accepted donations to the Endowment Fund.

Are all donations accepted by the Planned Giving Committee?

There is a gift acceptance policy that the Planned Giving Committee follows. Mainly, any donation that can be sold or used and will benefit the Church will be gratefully accepted.

Who makes up the Planned Giving Committee?

The Pastor (nonvoting), a representative of the Administrative Council, a representative of the Finance Committee, a representative of the Board of Trustees, and three additional people from the Church membership.

If I give a donation to Planned Giving and I have not designated a project for it to be used, how will my donation be spent? How can I be assured it will go where it is needed most?

The Planned Giving Committee will meet when any donation is given. If the donation is not designated for a specific use, the Planned Giving Committee will decide on the best use for those funds, based on the input received from many areas of the Church. That suggestion from the Planned Giving Committee will be given to the Administrative Council for the final determination.
